And more mess 11/7/04. Another view.
Yet more mess 11/7/04. And yet another.
Recycle 11/8/04. The plan was to use the existing deck as the base for the gazebo.
'Fraid not 11/8/04. But close inspection showed it wouldn't work; for one thing, it wasn't level.
Rot 11/8/04. And for another, it was beginning to rot. Plans changed.
Arbor 11/8/04. First the arbor was cut off at ground level and removed.
Cut up 11/8/04. And then the deck was cut up into manageable pieces and hauled away.

Rafters 11/10/04. Close up of rafters.
Rafters 11/10/04. This is an odd-shaped gazebo--6' x 11' which makes the end rafters have some strange angles.
Almost done 11/11/04. Almost done with the rafters.
Close up 11/11/04. A closer look.
Compound angles 11/11/04. See all the compound angles? This took a while.

Won't do 11/15/04. Hmmmmm, this will never do.
Cover up 11/16/04. Since we had no real plans for this gazebo, we did a lot of "engineering on the fly". Here's what we came up with to cover up that ugly sheathing.
Rails 11/16/04. Rails almost done.
Close up 11/16/04. Closer view of the rails. A decking board will be added on top of the rails.
Roof 11/16/04. Black paper being put on the roof, prior to the shingles.
Roof 11/16/04. What will they think of next? These "buttons" help keep the nails from pulling out!

Snow 2/28/05. Another view.
Lights 2/28/05. See the lights on the footbridge? There are two on each side and they provide a very nice glow down into the water at night. Looking forward to watching fish swim under the lights at night.
