Oxalises grow in neat mounds of foliage 4 inches to a foot across topped by five-petaled 1-inch flowers. Oxalis adenophylla is well suited to rock gardens, and can be left in the ground year round in Zones 6-10; it bears rosy pink flowers from late spring to midsummer.
Oxalises do best in full sun, but can tolerate very light shade. As outdoor plants, set them directly into the garden in fall, spacing the bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart and covering them with 2 inches of soil. They need no other care than a dusting of 5-10-5 fertilizer when new growth starts. Propagate in late summer or early fall from the masses of small bulbs that develop around large ones. Even small bulbs will produce flowering plants the first year.
