2/26/00. Tulips are peeking through the ground. Conventional wisdom says tulips must be planted every year in my area. I planted these single early tulip bulbs about 5 years ago, along with several more clumps in the same bed. Voles got all except these, and they've been slowly multiplying ever since. I may divide them this year.

3/17/00. Promising looking buds. A few warm days and we'll have blooms.
3/29/00. These blooms are fully open. When the sun is shining brightly and it's warm, the blooms open up wide, and close back up when the sun goes in and it cools off.

4/5/00. Tulips are just about gone. Petals are beginning to fall.

4/8/00. Tulips are gone, except for the foliage. I'll leave the foliage until it yellows to allow the bulbs to store food for next year. And, as a little boost, I always throw a handful of bone meal on each clump of bulbs after flowering.

5/3/00. Tulip foliage is about finished drying. I'll pull it up soon.

5/10/00. Tulip foliage is finished drying, so I pulled it up. It snaps off of the bulb quite easily, with just a gentle tug, when the time is right.
