December 9, 2001     After a couple of days of drizzle, sunny and in mid-50s today. Scabiosa are still blooming. 'Heritage' rose has a bud. Impatiens on front porch still blooming. Fig is finally loosing leaves. As soon as it goes dormant, I'll sink the pot and give it some protection.

December 12, 2001     Almost 3 inches of rain in the last week. Yes!!

December 15, 2001     Finally got the winterizer on the lawn. Also planted some Shirly poppy seed in mailbox bed. Starflowers and camassia have sprouted and are up about 3 inches.

December 18, 2001     The potted gardenia seems to have some blossom buds.

December 21, 2001     Amaryllis 'Floris Hekker' will bloom in a couple of days. Brought Meyer Lemon and sweet bay in yesterday, due to mid-high 20s temperatures. All Christmas cacti are blooming. Lots of seed catalogs coming in, and have been for a couple of weeks--need to start ordering seeds next week.

December 22, 2001     Protected both sasanqua camellias, both scented geraniums, rosemary, and both rhodedendron today. Moonflower finally bit the dust. Fig has lost most of it's leaves, so it's now sunk in a bed. Newest, potted clematis 'Polish Spirit' still doing OK. Holly 'China Girl' has two berries and seems to be doing fine in her new home in the side yard, as is 'China Boy'. Alpine strawberries still blooming and bearing. White heath blooming. Dianthus 'Tellstar Purple' still blooming. Camillia japonica buds showing color. Both scabiosa, 'Butterful Blue' and 'Pink Mist' still blooming. Hollyhock 'Majorette Mix' looking so lush and is still growing. Pelargonium 'Frank Headly' and the apple nutmeg scented one are both still blooming. Sweet autumn clematis didn't grow much this year and has died down some, but is still there. One primrose has sprouted. Really looking forward to them blooming. Asparagus fern in pond nook is still looking good.

December 26, 2001     Lows down in the high 20s and low 30s for the last week, but the 'Heritage' rosebud is still hanging on with no obvious damage. Verbena 'Patio Blue' still has one bloom. Impatiens on porch still blooming. Unbelievable. Collards are huge and delicious :).

December 27, 2001     'Floris Hekker' amaryllis saved from last year is blooming beautifully. And, there are some tiny little things on the Improved Meyer lemon that look suspiciously like blossom buds. Can't really believe that's what they are, but I don't have any other explanation for them. There are quite a few, actually. Will keep a close eye on them. Impatiens took a major hit last night with temps in low 20s but are still not out for the count. Light skimmer of ice on the pond this morning.

December 30, 2001     Impatiens finally gone.

December 31, 2001     Ordered from Park's Seeds: 'Granex Hybrid' yellow onion seed, 'Dwarf Grenadin' carnation seed, Helleborus niger seed, dwarf canna 'Tropical Rose' seed, 'Park's Creamy Improved' straight neck squash seed, caladium 'Pink Symphony' tubers, daffodil 'Earlicheer' bulbs, and 'Impressive' winter hardy gladiolus bulbs.
