January 1, 2002     Cold, very cold. Clear. More ice on the pond this morning, but still a good deal of open water. Possibility of snow tomorrow night and the next day. Ordered from Territorial Seeds: 'Mokum' carrot seed, 'Pacemaker III' beet seed, and velcro plant ties.

January 2, 2002     Ordered from Tomato Growers Supply: 'Brandywine (Red)' tomato seed, and 'Delicious' tomato seed. Definitely blossom buds on the Meyer lemon. (Happy dance being done here!)

January 3, 2002     Got about 3 inches of snow.

January 5, 2002     Seeds arrived from Park Seed. Also sent complimentary package of sweet pepper 'Rainbow Mix' (which I almost ordered!) and Stevia rebaudiana. This should be fun to play with.

January 7, 2002     Ordered these seeds from Seymour's Selected Seeds: 'Cherry Avalanche' petunia, 'Rose Petticoat' tuberous begonia, 'Nottingham Lace' coleus, 'Sonata Mix' dwarf cosmos, 'Double Confection Scarlet' impatiens, 'Watercolours Mix' pansys, 'Painted Lady' sweet pea, 'Ligtu Hybrids' astroemeria, 'Orientalis Hybrids' helleborus, 'Betonici folia' meconopsis, 'Angel Wings' rosa, 'Scottish Hybrids' viola, and 'Sunstar' clematis.

January 8, 2002     Ordered seeds from Pinetree Garden Seeds: 'Mokum' carrot, 'Daybreak' corn, 'Green Ice' lettuce, 'New Red Fire' lettuce, 'Tom Thumb' lettuce, 'Red Sails' lettuce, and 'Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow' viola.

January 9, 2002     Meyer lemon blossoms should open any day. There's at least 50 buds. I'll see how many drop naturally, and thin if necessary. Oh, how I'd love to get just one lemon!

January 10, 2002     First Meyer lemon bloom open!! Very strong fragrance.

January 11, 2002     Five more blooms open!!

January 12, 2002     Cleaned up some plant debris from street bed. Camellia japonica blooming.

January 14, 2002     Today there were 22 blossoms open. Already started some petal fall and blossom drop. Can't wait to see the first baby lemon. Seeds from Tomato Growers Supply arrived today.

January 16, 2002     I see what appear to be teeny tiny lemons remaining after petal fall on quite a few blossoms on the Meyer lemon.

January 17, 2002     Seeds from Pinetree Garden Seeds arrived today.

January 19, 2002     Clematis 'Polish Spirit' in the container is putting out new growth.

January 20, 2002     Bought seeds: Primrose 'Showy Evening', Statice 'Annual Mixed Colors', ornamental gourd mix, Snapdragon 'First Ladies, mixed Colors', and candy lily (Pardancanda). Started seeds of 'Granex Hybrid' onion, Impatiens 'Flavours Hybrid, Blueberry', Impatiens 'Victorian Rose', and viola 'Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow'. Had to replace front spigot two days ago. Sleet/freezing rain yesterday preventing replanting of disrupted blueberry 'Bluecrop', hollyhock 'Majorette Mix', several chrysanthemums, a lilium bulb (probably Easter lily), and blue salvia. All replanted today with fingers crossed. A clematis and Geranium 'Johnson's Blue' is missing. Don't know what else at this point.

January 22, 2002     Started seeds of Helleborus niger and put in fridge to stratify.

January 25, 2002     Shirley poppy seeds are sprouting in the mailbox bed.

January 27, 2002     Received seeds from Seymour's Selected Seeds. Sent free package of 'Vintage Peach' stocks and 'Easter Basket' alyssum.

January 28, 2002     Received seeds from Territorial Seeds. Planted these seeds: Helleborus orientalis (chilling in fridge), 'Rose Petticoat' tuberous begonia, and rosa 'Angel Wings'. Granex hybrids onions are sprouting, as are a few 'Blueberry' impatiens.

January 31, 2002     Planted some heliotrope 'Dwarf Marine'. A couple of viola 'Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow' up, as are a couple impatiens 'Victorian Rose.
