September 1, 2002     Bought some bulbs, etc., at Lowe's: Iris germanica 'Dover Beach' (second attempt) and 'Edith Wolford' (second attempt), and I. pallida variegata. 12 narcissus 'Ice Follies', 10 narcissus 'Salome', 20 crocus 'Pickwick', 15 miniature narcissus 'Bell Song', 10 narcissus 'Sir Winston Churchill', and 7 paperwhite narcissus.

September 7, 2002     Bought iris rhizomes at Wal*Mart: 'Champagne Elegance'. Planted ivy in deck rail planters for the front porch. Also got all new iris planted. Planted agapanthus 'Headbourne Hybrid' that I started from seed in the pond bed. Collards, kale, and rutabagas doing well.

September 9, 2002     Dug some weeds from the lawn, overseeded, fertilized, and started watering.

September 19, 2002     Second attempt to grow I. germanica 'Edith Wolford' failed. I really like this iris, so I guess I'll have to order it from a nursery next spring. Planted daylily 'Bama Music' and potted up and put in holding bed daylily 'Little Missy' and 'Siloam Plum Tree'. Oldest Meyer lemon fruit is turning lighter in color--hopefully on it's way to yellow. Peach tree is just beginning to lose leaves for the fall. Will have a cucumber or two ripe in a couple of days.

September 28, 2002     Got some much needed rain last week. New grass growing well. Mowed for the first time today and threw out more seed over bare spots. Planted blue sage seedlings and some mums on left side bed. Potted up and put in holding bed: Daylily 'Siloam Ethel Smith', 'Little Grapette', and 'Peach Fairy', Tradescantia 'Red Grape' and dwarf monarda 'Petite Delight'. Daylily 'Mary Todd' blooming. Hardy cylamen and toad lily blooming. Put caladiums in hot tub room to induce dormancy since nighttime temps down into 50s. Will put them in the basement after they go dormant until time to start them up again next spring. Both camellia sasanqua have buds and will be blooming shortly. Toadlily is blooming, as is the hardy cyclamen. Louisiana iris in the pond and in the container are doing the best of all.

September 29, 2002     Planted 'Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow' violas.

September 30, 2002     Planted fall blooming bulbs: Colchicum 'The Giant', crocus zonatus, and crocus speciosus.
