September 5, 2003     John and I built a wooden sidewalk to cover the left side walkway. We couldn't get grass to grow there and it was packed clay. Looks really good. Lilac 'Josee' is blooming again. Crepe myrtle 'Chickasaw' in full bloom.

September 9, 2003     Had one fig that was almost ripe and something got it--probably a raccoon. Collards are doing "OK". Now growing very fast. Probably because it's rained so much with little sun.

September 17, 2003     Toadlily is blooming. Prepared as much as possible for approaching hurricane Isabel. Covered collards and brought all pots inside. Caladiums in for the season.

September 18, 2003     Hurricane not as bad as predicted for this area. Lots of leaves and small limbs and branches down. No major damage.

September 28, 2003     Daylily 'Bric a Brac' reblooming.
