This most widely grown form of baby's breath grow in mounds 3 to 4 feet tall and an equal distance across.      Baby's breath flourishes in Zones 4-8 and in Zone 9 on the West Coast. It does best in full sun and well-drained neutral or even slightly alkaline soil (pH 6.5 to 7.5). The common name of chalk plant reflects its need for lime, which must be added if the soil is acid. Plant baby's breath 18 to 24 inches apart in early spring. In Zones 4 and 5 it may be necessary to provide winter protection.
