Echinecea purpurea

The garden varieties of the wild coneflower are drought-resistant 3-foot perennials that bear long-lasting 3 to 4 inch blossoms shaped like sunflowers during late summer and early fall.
Coneflowers grow in Zones 3 to 10 and do best in full sun but tolerate light shade. They require soil that is never soggy, especially during winter. Plant coneflowers 18 to 24 inches apart. New plants can be started from root cuttings or clump divisions in spring or fall to flower the following summer. To prevent overcrowding, divide clumps after three years of flowering.
