Tradescantia x andersoniana

Virginia spiderwort can grow to about 18 inches tall and bears 1½- to 3-inch flowers in shades of violet blue, pink, and red, as well as white. Although individual flowers last only one day, new ones continue to open from spring through early summer. By late spring the foot-long grasslike leaves and stems become weak and floppy; if cut to the ground at that time they will blossom again in the fall.      Virginia spiderworts grow in Zones 4-10 in almost any soil but do best in moist soil and light shade. Propagate by dividing clumps in the spring after three or four years of flowering.
