| The varied shapes and sizes of flowering shrubs, the beauty of their blossoms, and the colors of their fruits, berries, foliage, and bark provide the landscape gardener with a broad palette. There is a type to fill almost any need in the garden. One of the most common uses for flowering shrubs is next to a house, to accent a doorway, to hide unsightly aboveground foundation walls, or to make the house blend into its site. Probably the most important consideration in choosing shrubs for this purpose is size and shape. The plants should complement the lines of the house and should be of kinds that will not soon outgrow their locations. Other common uses for shrubs are as hedges and borders. |
