Just beginning to germinate 3/25/01. I will have beets. I will have beets. One day. If I keep trying. Maybe?
Coming up pretty well 4/20/01. At least they're already better than last year. Keeping the varmints out with the hardware cloth is part of the reason, I'm sure.
Dare I hope? 5/23/01 Best ever so far. Beets are still only about the diameter of a quarter, so they have a long way to go, but promising more than last year.
Dare I hope? 6/7/01 I think I'm gonna have a few beets! Finally!
Summary: These beets did somewhat better than any I had last year. Ended up with enough for a batch of beet pickles--beets averaged 2 inches in diameter. No vole damage, so lining bed was a good idea. Will try these again.
