Corn seed 7/10/00. 'Early Sunglow' seeds are treated with Captan fungicide and Methoxychlor insecticide when purchased.
Outsmarting the birds? 7/10/00. After planting the seeds, I covered the area with hardware cloth to, hopefully, keep the birds from pulling up the seedlings as soon as they sprout.
Up! 7/16/00. Good germination. Almost all seeds sprouted.
Outsmarting the birds? 7/16/00. Covered with a gadget made from 2x4 and hardware cloth to keep the birds out of the sprouted corn.
Who got fooled? 7/20/00. At least the birds didn't get them.
Not much left 7/23/00. Not much left. Don't think this will do anything--not enough to pollinate.
Summary: What the birds didn't get, the voles, etc., got. This corn didn't have a chance. Will try it again next year.
