Just planted Bush Pickle cucumbers 5/1/00. Planted 'Bush Pickle' cucumbers in containers. Label says they're suitable for small gardens and containers, and I've got both!!.
Growing well 5/10/00. Growing really well. Hope to get enough from both varieties to make a batch of pickle this year.
Blossom buds 5/14/00. Blossom buds beginning to form.
More blossom buds 5/21/00. More blossom buds forming.
Blossom buds 5/21/00. Bloom almost open.
Growing well 5/21/00. Plants growing well in containers so far.
Getting BIG! 5/25/00. Wonder how much bigger these plants are going to get? Will have to look into some sort of support for these vines.
Baby Bush Pickle 5/25/00. First 'Bush Pickle' baby cucumber.
Bush Pickle caged 5/27/00. 'Bush Pickle' support system in place.
Baby Bush Pickle 6/2/00. 'Bush Pickle' baby cucumber is a little better than 2 inches long here.
Baby Bush Pickle 6/7/00. Growing well--4 inches long here.
Almost ripe 6/9/00. This first one is almost ripe.
Climbing 7/5/00. This plant is beginning to climb the cage. The other one is keeping a low profile.
Ripe cucumber 7/9/00. Nice sized cucumber with a mottled skin. Tends to become misshappen easily, however.
Summary: These cucumbers were fairly productive, and were past bearing by the end of July. Tasty for eating fresh and for pickling. Being in pots, they probably suffered from insufficient water on occasion, and may have been even more prolific had that not happened. No complaints about this variety, except that at the end of the growing season, fruit tended to be more deformed than earlier. I probably will try other varieties next year.
