Just planted Dasher II cucumbers 4/30/00. Just planted 'Dasher II' cucumbers. Plants are small--just beginning to get first set of true leaves.
Just planted Dasher II cucumbers 4/30/00. Since these cucumbers will run, I put them in large cages. Had good luck in the past with this technique. Soaker hose in place.
Growing well 5/10/00. Growing really well. Hope to get enough from both varieties to make a batch of pickle this year.
Blossom buds 5/14/00. Blossom buds beginning to form.
Blossom buds 5/21/00. More blossom buds forming.
Growing well 5/21/00. Growing well. Should begin to cling to cage soon.
First open bloom 5/23/00. First fully open bloom.
Clinging vine 5/23/00. Tendril clinging to cage to help vine climb.
Mulched 5/24/00. Dried grass mulch in place to reduce watering, control weeds, and keep soil surface from crusting.
Baby Dasher II 5/25/00. First 'Dasher II' baby cucumber.
Growing well 6/4/00. Vines are growing well.
Nice 6/10/00. About 4 inches long here, and of a very good shape.
Growing 6/16/00. Wonder how big these vines will get?
Strangle hold 6/16/00. I thought this was interesting.
Going wild 7/5/00. Vines are still growing strong--into the corn stalks.
All grown up 7/9/00. Good size cucumber when ripe. Not too large. Good pickling cucumber.
Still going 7/23/00. They keep going, and going, and going...
All gone 8/10/00. Finally have to admit they're finished.
Revisited 5/16/03. Had such good luck with these in the past that I'm growing them again.
Summary: These cucumbers were extremely productive, bearing a few fruits all the way through the first week of August. Tasty for eating fresh and for pickling. Very pleased with this variety, and will certainly plan to grow them again next year.
