2/27/00. I broadcast one 4 by 8 foot bed with 1/2 pound of seed, covered with 1 inch of soil, and tamped it down. Rain was forecast, so I waited to see if Mother Nature would provide. She did. My garden space is limited, so I will need this space for other vegetables. I plan to harvest the peas by May 1, which is when I can safely plant snap beans, lima beans, and cucumbers.

3/11/00. Peas are up and about 1 inch high.
4/1/00 Laxton peas are growing well. Vines are about 8 inches tall. I'll probably take the wire frame off in a few days.
4/8/00 I was going to remove the wire frame today. Peas had other ideas. They had already started to cling to the wire grid. I'll leave it in place; it will provide a support for the growing vines.

4/15/00 WOW! Peas have grown 6 inches in one week. They'll be blooming soon.
4/17/00 I knew it!! The sun of yesterday and today brought the buds out. If the sun shines tomorrow, this bud will open.
4/19/00 Sunshine all day, and look what happened! First pea bloom of 2000. I would think, at this rate, and with no unfortunate incidents, I should be able to pick peas in a month.

4/27/00 I've been inspecting the peas closely, and it paid off. Found some aphids. They ruined my pea vines last year, so I'm determined to out-smart them this year. I sprayed them with insecticidal soap.
4/28/00 Rain bowled the peas over by weighting them down. Will consider shorter growing variety next year, or build up layers of chicken wire secured to fence posts to support the vines.

5/2/00 Laxton peas are setting little pods. How cute!!
5/11/00 Laxton pea pods are swelling.
