| 4/30/00. I planted these seeds directly into the garden. I sprinkled the seeds as evenly as possible, then just scratched the soil up, covering the seeds randomly. I did not add more soil to ensure coverage.

5/4/00. 'Nevada' lettuce is up already--only 4 days after planting seeds. So far, however, has not germinated as well as the 'Black Seeded Simpson'.

5/21/00. 'Nevada' lettuce has been disappointing so far. The seedlings that did sprout look good; few sprouted. I'll try it again before putting it on my "Don't Bother List."

| Summary: Did not do well planted inside the bean teepee. Beans grew so fast that the lettuce was crowded out, so I can't evaluate it's performance. Will try it again sometime in more favorable conditions and location.
