4/30/00. After trying different trellis designs that didn't work as well as I had hoped, I tried this bean teepee technique. It works quite well and I've now used it for several years. I planted two teepees in each of two beds, with six seeds around each leg.

5/7/00. I couldn't find baby lima pole bean seed this year, so I planted some seeds that I've had for several years, kept my fingers crossed, and they're coming up!
5/10/00. Fairly pleased with the way these seeds are sprouting, considering they were old seeds.
5/21/00. Here's all that came up. Could be the old seeds, could be varmits--underground or in the air. I'll plant some bush butter beans to make up for the lack here, because bush beans mature faster than pole beans.

5/25/00. These tendrils will grab the teepee leg soon and begin to climb.
6/2/00. 'Sieva' baby limas are climbing the teepee poles well.
6/12/00. Seems the deer feasted last night.
6/16/00. Lots of vines.
7/5/00. A-w-w-w-w-w-w. Look at the baby bean pods.
7/5/00. These pods are full sized--just need to fill out.
7/8/00. Lots of blooms on the way.
7/9/00. You can see the little beans in the pods here.
7/10/00. Full of promise.
7/16/00. Lots of vines.
7/23/00. Mexican Bean Beetle larva.
