3/4/00. I planted these radish seeds thicker than recommended. I don't really like radishes much, but I read some place that radishes will help keep aphids off of other plants. Since I had such a bad time with aphids on my peas last year, I decided to plant some at either end of the pea bed.

3/11/00. These seedlings are the ones that were not under the floating row cover.

3/11/00 These seedlings were under the floating row cover. Quite a difference, huh?

4/1/00. Growing very nicely. Too bad I don't like to eat radishes.
4/7/00 Looks like the best crop I'm going to have, huh? Will need to be thinned soon, just to keep them away from the carrots that need all the help they can get.

4/18/00 Crimson Giants are about 1/2 inch in diameter now.

4/30/00 Even after thinning drastically, there's still lots of radishes.

4/30/00 These radishes range from 1/2 inch to one inch in diameter--just right to slice into a salad.
| Summary: Good crop of these radishes. Nice, mild taste. Tops got rather large towards the end, but roots never got woody or tough, even in the heat. Didn't get as big as advertised, but I sowed the seeds very thickly. No pests to speak of, except for a few small holes eaten in a few leaves. Would plant this radish again.
