The bottoms are anchored with soil, and the tops with clothespins. 4/11/00 German Johnsons are blooming! 4/11/00 German Johnsons are turning yellow. 5/1/00 None of the tomatoes did well during the rainy/cloudy weather of a couple of weeks ago, but finally are looking a little better. Most earlier buds have fallen off, as expected. 5/11/00 Looking SO much better!! I think these blooms are the real thing. 5/17/00 Healthy looking plants. 5/27/00 First 'German Johnson' baby. 6/2/00 Tomatoes are growing well. 6/10/00 Mulched with dried grass. 7/9/00 Looks like a case of blight. 7/9/00 First ripe 'German Johnson' tomatoes. 7/27/00 'German Johnson' tends to crack with the slightest increase in moisture. Summary: First time to grow this variety, and they didn't perform well at all--probably due to the very wet spring, and the place they were planted stayed moist with poor air circulation. Because of this, early blight set in earlier than usual. Pulled up plants on August 12.
